- Event: The Count of St. Germain is reported as being in Bavaria this year, and also at Verseilles/France and The Hague/Holland.
- Event/Taxes: Responding to 1773s Boston Tea Party, Britain forces the port of Boston closed, and passes the Intolerable Acts, a number of very unpopular new draconian rules on the colonies.

- Event: Georg Christoph Lichtenberg makes his second journey to England where he spends a year and a half and meets with King George III and several scientific luminaries.
September
- September 5: First Continental Congress convenes. During the next seven weeks,the Congress organized a massive boycott of British goods, began drawing up a plan of union which would eventually become the Articles of Confederation and pledged to support Massachusetts in case of attack. This sets the stage for the American Revolution to begin in earnest in 1775.
