- Event: The Bavarian Illuminati are outlawed by the government of Bavaria.
- Event: The play The Marriage of Figaro by Pierre Beaumarchais produced for the first time, after years under a royal ban.
- Event: The Count of St. Germain dies in his textile-dying factory in Eckernförde. His death is attested to by Prince Charles of Hesse-Kassel, and records exist of his burial and the dispersal of the Count's wealth. He doesn't stay dead for long.
