Undated
- All Year Event: the COVID-19 global pandemic infects more than 50 million, kills more than a million, and results in widespread quarantine and "shelter at home" orders, and greatly damages the world economy.
- RPG/Fiction: Cyberpunk 2020 is, like it says on the tin, set in this year. (If I don't get all those enhanced cyborg parts they promised me installed before the year is out, I'm going to be really disappointed. Update: I was.)
- Event: An autonomous man-hunting drone is deployed on a battlefield for the first time. See The Age Of Killer Robots May Have Already Begun.
In terms of general "feel" or "theme", 2020 has been some serious dystopia-fodder. Lockdowns. Masks. Propaganda. Election anxiety. Police Brutality. Protests. Riots. Arson. Autonomous Zones. Mass graves. Acedia. It's objectively not the worst year ever, at least not in the history of mankind, but it sure felt like it at the time.

- Event: The outgoing US Presidential Administration continues to make baseless claims about election fraud, despite having lost over 50 court cases about it. Despite this consistent and repeated failure in multiple courts of law, several Republican Party Congressmen are talking about trying to prevent their obligatory and mostly-ceremonial ratification of Electoral College votes scheduled to take place on January 6 2021.
