Basic Information

The Aerojet-Dade Rocket Facility is a former solid propellant rocket manufacturing and testing site in Florida. The site was commissioned in 1963, and a canal, now known as the Aerojet Canal, was dug to accommodate transportation of the heavy rocket components. The third and final rocket test at the site, on June 17, 1967 resulted in the nozzle being ejected from the rocket when it was nearing burnout, which in turn caused propellant made out of hydrochloric acids to scatter across nearby cropland, the wetlands, and the nearby town of Homestead. Since then, the facility has been abandoned.
