An aerostat is a lighter-than-air aircraft or object that relies on buoyancy to keep it aloft.

• Aerostat Habitat - a floating habitat high in the atmosphere of planets with a high air pressure.

Game and Story Use

• These objects use air pressure or wind to stay aloft, so they're of no use on a planet with no atmosphere.
• If for whatever reason satellites don't work, areostats are a likely replacement for a lot of their functions.
• They would also make fairly decent replacements for C3I aircraft such AWACS and in roles like maritime patrol and electronic warfare or surveillance.
