Atlantic Ocean
Basic Information
The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest of the world's oceans and seperates the continents of Europe and Africa from North and South America. It takes its name from Atlas of Greek legend.
Plato's continent of Atlantis was supposed to have been located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Although his continent has never been conclusively found, in the 1960s scientists did find a ridge on the ocean floor running smack dab up the middle of the ocean.
