Born In The Wrong Century
rating: 0+x

"most people think Marv is crazy. He just had the rotten luck of being born in the wrong century. He'd be right at home on some ancient battlefield swinging an axe into somebody's face. Or in a Roman arena, taking his sword to other gladiators like him."

Sin City Frank Miller

Basic Information

This Characterization Trope refers to a character who yearns for Ye Goode Olde Days. They may be some sort of recreationist or history buff. They may be a Reincarnation of someone who lived in an earlier era. They're a natural character type to end up as a Time Traveler, and, if lucky, they just might get sucked through a Portal To The Past. They may feel like a Fish Out Of Temporal Water in their own era, and only happy in the past.

You could also get away with inverting this trope and assigning it to a character that chafes against the standards of their own time and would be more comfortable in a more decadent era - characters like Alistaire Crowley or Lord Byron would almost certainly have been happier (but less famous) in the late 20th century.
