July 16, 2010: The corporation BP has admitted that it had lobbied the British government to release the only person convicted for the Lockerbie bombing to Libya, Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi in order to protect a $900 million deal regarding offshore oil and gas exploration off the coast of Libya.

Game and Story Use

  • This is classical cyberpunk megacorp behavior - subvert justice in order to protect its interests. Thus, it can serve as a template for similar deals in either cyberpunk settings or espionage campaigns. The PCs can either expedite the negotiations (if they have been hired by the corporation or the nation wishing to free its citizen) or sabotage them (likely by proving their existence to the public).
    • Or be contracted to ensure that justice is served regardless and the released terrorist doesn't live to enjoy his newfound freedom.
