Basic Information

Chlorophyll is a green pigment found in plants. It absorbs light and converts it into energy for the plant. The light-absorbing components of chlorophyll are complex, many-body quantum systems[1] based around a chelated magnesium ion. Chlorophyll is also found in some kinds of photosynthetic bacteria … although it is far from the only photsynthetic molecule in creation.

Game and Story Use

  • Given that "quantum" is one of the most overused words of technobabble (for examples, see the Aberrant campaign setting) , game masters can now justify giving any plant-based technology any conceivable "quantum powers".
  • For other types of mad science, consider giving animals - including humans - chlorophyll pigments so that they can absorb more energy and need less food.
  • For fantasy campaigns, consider a similar substance that adsorbs 'mystical energies' to fuel supernatural powers. Just don't mention "the m-word".
