  • H.P. Lovecraft:
    • The Patron Saint of Cosmic Horror. He wasn't the first to write about Things Man was Not Meant to Know, but his stories have shaped science fiction and horror ever since. Some of his notable stories include:
      • "At the Mountains of Madness"
      • "The Call of Cthulhu"
      • "The Dunwich Horror"
      • "Shadow Over Innsmouth"
    • These excellent Penguin Modern Classics editions contain (almost) all his stories with notes by S.T. Joshi
      • The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories
      • The Dreams of the Witch House and Other Weird Stories
      • The Thing on the Doorstep and Other Weird Stories.

Games

  • Call of Cthulhu (Chaosium) — Sadly, no longer in print, but highly regarded as an excellent source of Lovecraftian campaign material and a good RPG system to boot. It's system for tracking the erosion of the characters's sanity is legendary.
