Eastern Lightning

Basic Information

Eastern Lightning is a China-based religion which has strong elements of a cult and a terrorist organization. It is also known as the "Church of Almighty God" and the "Church of the Gospel's Kingdom". They believe that the biblical God has returned to Earth in the form of Yang Xiangbin, a woman from northern China. It believe that the world will end soon, and use extreme methods, including violence, kidnapping, and brainwashing for both recruiting new members and resisting the Chinese government, which they refer to as the "Great Red Dragon" from the Book of Revelations.

Game and Story Use

• Given how far they have already strayed from Christian doctrine, it is entirely possible that the God they worship is, in fact, not the Biblical one, but one right out of the Cthulhu Mythos.
  • Something like the Emerald Lama would seem appropriate.
• Possibly a good inspiration for an aggressive cult in another setting.
