I was halfway through writing this entry when it occurred to me that I was putting in a lot of detail that was largely irrelevant to gaming. But what the hey. Hergé is one of my favorites, and I wanted to give him a shout out.

Except… when the page for him was created, it left out the accent mark over the terminal "e". Annoying. It always takes a lot of trial and error for me to find the right combination of keys to make those furrin characters and it bugs me to see it all for naught.

Nevertheless, Tintin rocks.

As for the accent mark - you can make a new page that uses it, then transfer the text there. Then, replace the first page with the redirect code. Alternately, just make a new page with the accent mark, and use the redirect template to link it to the first page you made.

As for the relevance to gaming - I've had similar problems with one or two pages I made. I'd say leave it - I'd rather have too much info available than too little. However, it might be a good idea to include a summary of just the most-gaming-relevant info at the top. Not that I've done as much for my own pages where I went overboard, but it's one approach I've considered rather than deleting words I toiled over.

When creating a new page, Wikidot.Com bases the title of the page on its URL, not the name of the link you clicked on.

So "NASA" becomes "Nasa", "C.S.I." becomes "C S I", and so forth. If you have any complex titles (using accents, punctuations, special characters, capital letters within words, and so forth), it's usually a good idea to pay attention to the title and paste and copy it from the link you created it from.

Humph. I just tried creating a "Hergé page using the "Add a new page" feature at the bottom of the sidebar, and it told me that there already was a page for "Herge".

I suppose I could just make a new page called "George Remi" and avoid the issue altogether, but it's still annoying. I think I'll just leave it as it is.

Eventually I want to do a page for Nöel Coward and I want to make sure I get the markings right.

Well, to make it a bit more precise, the wiki software doesn't really distinguish between Hergé and Herge - both lead to the same URL. However, you can give it either title - but you need to add it in the edit window of the page ("Herge" is the default).

I've altered the title to "Hergé". It doesn't change the URL in any way, but if you call that page up in (for example) a random page function, it will display "Hergé" instead of "Herge".
