Swapping out a Category

I took a liberty with the "Categories" section of the Main Page. I took out Ghost Towns and replaced it with Bibliography. I wanted to give the Bibliography pages a starting place and figured it would be easier to bump another category out for it than create a new field. I felt that Ghost Towns didn't really need to be a root category. If anyone feels differently, I suppose we can adjust to put it back.

What blog did you have in mind?

Generally, there shouldn't be any external links on the start page - though they are entirely appropriate in the "sources" section of other pages (such as the Campaign Setting page).

Page Previews on the Start Page

Hm. The preview of the pages under the tabs might be useful to readers. I don't like how the rest of the text is ootched to one side, though. It means that there is a sentence fragment directly under the previews and I wasn't at first sure where the first part of the text was.

I don't care for the new layout, I'm afraid.

Maybe it's not displaying right on my computer? The "10 random pages" section has only 8 pages listed, and they're in huge rectangles with just a tiny bit of text in each rectangle - tons of wasted space.

Plus it's listing redirect pages, so several of the boxes are filled with things like "[This template is just for use in setting up automatic redirects to other pages. This is useful when a page you've created has several possible names or spellings, none of which have any functional…"

If you can set it to not list redirect pages, days, years, and stubs, then it might be worth the eyesore of the layout, the conspicuous wasted space, and the way it messes up the flow of the text off to the right. But as is, I really don't like it.

Sorry if that comes off as harsh.

Another problem. As it's set up now, the preview pages give the first hundred or so characters of text on the page, no matter what that text might be. In some instances where the page has a piece of flavor text at the beginning, this snippet of text out of context makes no sense and is confusing to the casual reader rather than helpful. I don't know if there's any remedy for this, or if it's just something we'll have to live with.

Hey Jhubert,

Since Bastaboy and his anonymous clone keep reverting this page to a version with a spam link, we may need to report him to wikidot and set the site to not take anonymous edits for a while.
