Groundhog Day Loop
rating: 0+x

Basic Information

In this Time Travel Trope, a character relives the same period of time (usually exactly one day) again and again. Just as grief has seven stages, the Ground Hog Day Loop has three:

  1. Confusion. Wait, didn't this already happen yesterday? Doesn't this seem familiar to you? What's going on? Is this some kind of joke?
  2. Experimentation. Playing around with fore-knowledge, unburdening your soul, doing things you'd never try if you weren't certain that tomorrow they'll be erased.
  3. Solution. Figuring out what's causing the loop, and how to stop it.

Game and Story Use

  • To run this sort of scenario, you'll need pretty extensive notes, most likely including a time-line of the day in question. Leave room for adding more details - the PCs are certain to improvise, explore places you haven't seen yet, and then revisit those moments to mess with them further on subsequent days of the loop.
