Basic Information

A theoretical human-chimpanzee hybrid. Ilya Ivanovich Ivanov (biologist) attempted to create them in the Soviet Union in the 1920s. Saint Peter Damien claimed one existed in northern Italy in the 11th Century.

Chimps have one more chromosome than humans, so such crossbreeding is somewhat unlikely to work, or at least unlikely to produce non-sterile offspring… but not necessarily impossible. We did have common ancestor, pan prior, between 4 and 13 million years ago, and we do share over 90% of our genome. So that's believable mad scientist territory, even, sadly, in the real world.

Game and Story Use

  • Would require a certain amount of rubber science … and some fairly odd people … to happen naturally, although anyone who shops in Wilkinson or similar discount outlets may disagree.
  • Chimps are surprisingly strong and aggressive. Combine that with human intelligence and the twisted upbringing that you're likely to get if a mad scientist created you for nefarious reasons, and you've got the makings of a pretty scary character. Maybe the half-human hybrid bodyguard or minion of the main mad, or maybe a full-blown villain in their own right.
