Hurricane Katrina was a hurricane that devastated New Orleans, Louisiana on August 29, 2005.

Used straight, surviving through Katrina and its aftermath makes for a good disaster movie plot - desperate survivors, horrendous damage, incompetent authorities…
Given the long occult history of New Orleans, the hurricane might have a supernatural origin.
All sorts of supernatural entities are reported to live in the bayous surrounding New Orleans. They might use this disaster to escape and to prey on the citizens of New Orleans at large.
