Kumis
Basic Information
Kumis is an alcoholic drink fermented from milk - traditionally the milk of mares but cow's milk is used for industrial production. The drink is native to the central Asian steppes and is also known as airag or tseegee, depending on who is drinking it at the time. Other alcoholic dairy drinks include Blaand (Scandinavia and some parts of Scotland) and Chal (also Central Asian and made from camel milk) and something similar - known as "shake-shake" is sometimes consumed by poor South Africans.
