La Isla De Las Munecas
Basic Information
La Isla de las Munecas, or "Island of the Dolls", is located in the canal network of the Xochimilco neighborhood of Mexico City. This island used to be owned by one Julián Santana Barrera (who drowned in 2001) who has nailed hundreds of discarded dolls to trees. Local legend has it that he started to do this to ward off evil spirits and to please the ghost of a girl who drowned in the canals. Many of the dolls are at least partially dismembered.

Game and Story Use
- Perhaps they are not just discarded dolls, but discarded voodoo dolls?
- Even if they aren't, they may still be some kind of fetish or a form of ward magic - in some traditions, evil spirits are inherently sneaky and don't like being watched whilst about their business: even the sensation of a set of doll eyes "watching" them may be enough to make them uncomfortable enough to leave.
- More worryingly, the dolls could be transformed victims or soul jars holding victim's souls.
