Basic Information

The Moral Event Horizon is a trope which signifies an event or deed which makes clear that a villain is utterly evil and unredeemable, and where it becomes impossibly to sympathize with or apologize for the character. Values dissonance of various kinds may, however, lead to some uncertainty as to where the actual horizon lies.

  • Use this for villains whom the PCs should truly relish defeating.
  • If a player character has been behaving in morally dubious ways, spread rumors that he did something that crossed the Moral Event Horizon, and watch as he scrambles to clear his name - and with his track record, it should be difficult to prove his innocence since he is obviously guilty of other things…
