- In the classic novel "2010" by Arthur C. Clarke, a black spot appeared on Jupiter in the form of a large number of black monoliths - self-replicating machines which gradually ate up Jupiter and turned the planet into a miniature star. Perhaps this is the case here now, too - and only one year early!
- Perhaps a very large UFO is floating in Jupiter's atmosphere instead - the alien mothership, no doubt.
- If the movements of the planets really does influence our lives as astrology claims, then how do impacts such as this one influence them?
