Basic Information
Persian mythology is the folklore, legends and myths of Persia. Persian mythology is heavily influenced by Zoroastrianism, and has at least roots going back to the Achaemenid Empire. Roughly the area where modern Iran is located, but we're talking about a time frame before the modern era (and yet after the ancient world era when Mesopotamian mythology was born). Much of Persian mythology is just over a thousand years old, with the main original source for much of it being the Shahnameh of Ferdowsi, written between the years 977 and 1010.
