Rodeo Rider
rating: 0+x

His eyes are cold and restless
An' his wounds have almost healed
And she'd give half of Texas
Just to change the way he feels
She knows his love's in Tulsa
An' she knows he's gonna go
Well, it ain't no woman flesh and blood
It's that damned old rodeo

Basic Information

The Rodeo Rider is a working cowboy on the off-season, but whenever there's a rodeo, he's off to show off his riding and roping skills. The term "Rodeo" is a Spanish word, for information on it's origins, see Vaquero.

Game and Story Use

  • A useful way to distinguish one cowboy character from another - this is probably the most dexterous and skilled of the bunch. May also have some charisma, or at least showmanship. You may want to decide whether you're going to depict him more as an Athlete or a Performer.
    • A high level of horsemanship is likely to be a pre-requisite (possibly with a sub-specialisation in bull riding), but equally his riding skill may be narrowly focused on one very specific aspect (staying in the saddle of a mount that is attempting to throw you) and may not apply across the board.
    • Where the rodeo is more about displaying cowboy skills than simply staying on something's back, expect high ratings in key skills (such as roping and hogtying, competitive horsemanship and shooting).
