Basic Information

The Roman Kingdom is the period of Ancient Rome from 753 BC to 509 BC. This era starts with the founding of the city of Rome, and lasts until the revolution and overthrow of the last King of Rome, Lucius Tarquinius Superbus. In this era, Rome is still a single city-state, without the massive territories it would later control.

Game and Story Use

  • Since the Kingdom period was known only in broad strokes even during the Late Republic, you can (and probably must) make things up to fill in the gaps if you run a game in it.
  • In later periods, the "old-and-mysterious=magical-and-powerful" trope was one very much known to the Romans. Having a MacGuffin dating from the Kingdom period or before is a great way to get characters excited about it.
