A rumor is an unverified claim about a person, object, organization, or issue, and which is spreading from person to person instead of "official" channels.

Game and Story Use

• A good way to annoy the player characters is to spread nasty rumors about them. After all, unlike ordinary opponents, rumors are hard to fight, and the PCs will have great difficulties in proving their innocence.
  • This can be especially entertaining if the PCs did something illegal or morally dubious, but not what the rumors claim. By trying to prove their innocence regarding the rumor, they risk getting their real secret out in the open.
• Rumors are also a good way to feed information to the PC's; especially misleading information. It will be up to them to figure out how much of the rumor is accurate.
