Russian Analyst Predicts Decline And Breakup Of USA
Summary
November 25, 2008: A Russian political analyst predicts that the massive debt of the United States is leading to a collapse of the dollar and the US economy as a whole. He further speculates that China and Russia might take over from the USA as regulators of the world economy.
As a result of the economic crisis, he predicts that the USA will split up into six parts:
- "the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population"
- "the South, with its Hispanics"
- "Texas, where independence movements are on the rise"
- "the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality"
- "five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations"
- "the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong"
Furthermore, he suggests that Russia "should claim Alaska" - since "it was only granted on lease, after all."

Game and Story Use
- This could make for a decent Alternate History or Twenty Minutes Into The Future setting.
- Cyberpunk settings, especially, tend to have geopolitics which soon after their introduction are rendered implausible by real world events - so this scenario wouldn't be too out of line in this genre.
