Tubal-Cain
rating: 0+x

Jubal sang of the golden years
Uhen wars and wounds shall cease -
But Tubal fashioned the hand-flung spears
And showed his neighbours peace
New - new as Nine-point-Two
Older than Lamech's slain -
Roaring and loud is the feud avowed
Twix'' Jubal and Tubal Cain!

(from) Jubal and Tubal Cain Rudyard Kipling

Basic Information

Tubal-Cain is the great-great-great-great-grandson of Cain. He may have invented metal-smithing, assuming you take your bible literally, and that you don't think anyone else might have done some smithing ahead of him and just got left out of the bible's recounting of events. As recounted at our The Sons Of Cain Invent Technology page, he was known as Tubal Cain "who forged all kinds of tools out of bronze and iron." So for those of you keeping track of smithing color terms at home, he'd be a red/ brown, and black smith.

Game and Story Use

  • Wait, the Antediluvian Childer of Caine are Technocracy types? You're making my World of Darkness spin on its axis, here.
  • Does the term "redsmith" originate because of the blood on his namesake/grandfather's hands? :)
  • Another interesting character to compete with Wayland the Smith, Hephaestus/Vulcan, Hattori Hanzo (Kill Bill), etc, for top billing of noteworthy smiths.
  • If you have a really old magic item made from bronze or iron, and you'd like to give it a good pedigree, you could say it was built by Tubal-Cain.
    • This may be especially useful provenance for items with a not-insignificant religious aspect. Either blessed (it was made by a guy from the bible) or cursed (it was made by the spawn of Cain) would be justifiable.
  • For more ideas see The Sons Of Cain Invent Technology
  • According to known timelines, to have invented both bronze and iron working technology would have required a career stretching from ~3300 BC to ~1200 BC … but of course, this guy lived before the age of Noah. Presumably the technology and infrastructure derived from his work was lost in The Great Flood.
